.DISCUSSION...
A warm front bringing showers, and even a few thunderstorms, to the
area early this morning, was more characteristic of Spring than
Christmas morning. If thunder occurs at Charleston, it would be
the first occurrence of thunder there on Christmas Day since 2015.
Thunderstorms end first thing this morning, and the rain ends by
this afternoon, as the front moves back south, as a cold front.
That front will interrupt the mild weather again across
northern West Virginia and east-central Ohio later today. The
unseasonably mild weather will continue further south as
temperatures fluctuate north, but all locations will be
unseasonably mild on Sunday, with highs throughout the lowlands
in the 60s.
The next system brings more rain Friday into Friday night. After a
mainly dry interlude Saturday, rain is possible with another warm
front Sunday, but more likely as an arctic front approaches the
area Sunday night, and then charges through the area on Monday. That
may change the rain to snow before ending Monday, with upslope snow
showers in the mountains into Monday night amid blistery and much
colder conditions.
