 Fire Weather Planning Forecast
 National Weather Service Charleston WV
 539 AM EDT Thu Apr 16 2026

 .DISCUSSION...
Unusual heat for April will stay with us through Saturday afternoon.

Because it has been so dry lately, the danger for brush fires is
expected to remain high today as winds gust to 15 to 25 miles per
hour, although minimum afternoon relative humidity percentages are
not expected to be critically low, generally in the 30s.

A few strong to marginally severe storms could occur later this
afternoon into this evening, along with a conditional wetting rain
for some. A cold front brings a better likelihood for storms
Saturday afternoon and evening, with a conditional wetting rain
into Saturday night. The weather turns much colder behind the
front, with potential for critically low minimum afternoon
relative humidity percentages in the 20s Monday and Tuesday of
 next week.
