Initial rain will transition to snow Tuesday afternoon, with snowfall continuing into early Wednesday morning. Central Minnesota is expected to see the highest snow amounts, with the forecast having trended a bit farther south over the last few updates. As rain transitions to snow, winds are expected to increase with gusts out of the northwest as high as 40-45mph leading to blowing snow, reduced visibility, and potential hazardous travel Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
The highest probabilities for 2 and 4 inches are north of Morris and Mora, MN. Lighter snow accumulation is likely farther south.
Winds will greatly strengthen Tuesday afternoon and continue into Wednesday before gradually slowing. Strongest winds are expected in southwestern and southern MN where gusts could reach 40-50 MPH.
