Prolonged Atmospheric River Will Impact the Northwest Early this Week

A weather system in the Pacific Northwest will produce rain throughout the day, before a potent atmospheric river produces a prolonged round of heavy rainfall, widespread urban and river flooding, and high elevation snow to the region Monday through Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms may produce isolated damaging winds, a brief tornado, and locally heavy rainfall across parts of Florida today. Read More >

A very complex winter storm continues today. Heavy snow is expected north of I-94, a mix of snow and freezing rain is expected along the I-94 corridor, and wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph south of I-94 in Minnesota will result in blowing and drifting snow tonight.
Heavy snow is expected to fall just north of a surface low as it tracks southeast near I-94 late this evening. At its peak, snowfall rates near or above 1 inch per hour are expected for a 2-to-4-hour period at any one location.
Wind gusts of 45-55 mph are expected to overspread southwest MN this evening. This will lead to some blowing and drifting of snow, but with temperatures warming above freezing and rain falling in this part of Minnesota earlier today, it is uncertain how much the snow will be able to be blown around.
