Lake-effect Snow and Whiteout Conditions in the Great Lakes Region; Below-average Temperatures in the East

Heavy lake-effect and lake-enhanced snow will persist downwind of the Great Lakes and produce some whiteout conditions that could cause difficult travel conditions. A coastal low will produce moderate to heavy snow over parts of southern and eastern New England into the afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect this evening through tonight for 2 to 5 inches of snow, with the highest amounts expected along and south of I-94. This will likely impact the Wednesday morning commute.
Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected later this evening through tonight for areas along and south of I-94. Locally higher amounts will be possible. The expected area of highest snow totals may shift a little north or south.
A round of snow showers is expected Wednesday evening, with an inch possible. Gusty winds of 30 to 35 mph will result in some blowing snow.
Arctic air returns to southern Wisconsin for the weekend. Dropping temperatures and increasing winds will cause wind chills of -20 to -40 across the area.
