Another round of strong to severe thunderstorms is possible Wednesday afternoon and evening, but the severe potential will depend on where the front sets up. IF the front stalls more along the WI/IL border with cooler temps and cloudy skies, THEN expected more heavy rain and a flooding threat with potential for some small hail. IF the front lift north toward the I-94 bringing more sunshine THEN expected warmer temps and moisture to create a favorable environment capable of producing large hail to an inch or more, damaging winds, and isolated tornado or two, in addition to flooding.
Either scenario will bring additional rainfall of 0.5-1.0 inch, with locally higher amounts exceeding 1.0 inch. Combined with saturated soils and elevated river levels, this may lead to additional flooding concerns across southern WI.
Another round of severe thunderstorms will be possible Friday afternoon and evening. The more favorable environment for severe weather will be back toward IA, but it looks to extend into southern WI. There is still plenty of time and uncertainty means the forecast can shift.
