Tracking Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall in the Southern U.S.; Winter Storm to Impact the Northern U.S.

A storm system will shift from eastern Texas into the lower Mississippi Valley Monday with additional threats of severe thunderstorms and heavy to excessive rainfall which may bring flooding. A significant winter storm continues across southern Wisconsin through tonight. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM Sunday across the entire area. Avoid travel through this evening if possible!
The heaviest snowfall rates of the ongoing winter storm continue through at least mid-evening. Rates will gradually taper across the west following 6 PM, though they will remain elevated in east-central and southeast Wisconsin through midnight. Rates will fall quickly areawide after midnight.
A widespread 7" to 12" snowfall remains on track across all of southern Wisconsin through early Sunday morning. Higher totals to 14"+ remain possible to the south of I-94/US-18, in addition to along the Kettle Moraine. Snow will become drier & more powdery later tonight.
Snow ends early Sunday morning, though travel impacts will linger into the afternoon due to gusty northwest winds and blowing snow. Best potential for blowing snow & travel impacts will be between 4 AM and 4 PM. Budget extra time for any holiday travel.
