High-Impact and Far-Reaching Winter Storm Continues; Cold Expands and Persists

A major winter storm will shift its impacts into the Northeast U.S. with heavy snow through tonight while over the Mid-Atlantic, sleet and freezing rain will diminish. Extremely cold air behind the storm will prolong dangerous travel and infrastructure impacts. A passing weather system is bringing light snow showers to most of southeastern Kentucky through Saturday night, as well as a shot of colder air. The best chances for multiple inches of snow remain in the farthest southeastern counties. Warmer weather returns Tuesday.
Snow showers continue to affect southeast parts of the area with mainly light accumulations through Saturday afternoon. Snow ends later Saturday as bitter cold temperatures return tonight through the weekend. A welcomed warming trend starts next week.
Cold daytime highs and overnight lows will allow for sub-zero and single digit wind chills through Monday of next week. The lowest wind chills are expected this weekend. A warm-up is on the way, with a warming trend Tuesday though mid-week.
