High-Impact and Far-Reaching Winter Storm Continues; Cold Expands and Persists

A major winter storm will shift its impacts into the Northeast U.S. with heavy snow through tonight while over the Mid-Atlantic, sleet and freezing rain will diminish. Extremely cold air behind the storm will prolong dangerous travel and infrastructure impacts. A couple of passing systems will bring light snow showers to most of Eastern Kentucky Friday through Saturday night, as well as a shot of colder air. More uncertainty remains in exact amounts. Cold weather headlines are possible later this week and weekend as reinforcing blasts of arctic air arrive.
Snow showers will start to develop late tonight with mainly light accumulations possible on Friday. Snow continues into Saturday, primarily in the eastern parts of the area, bitter cold temperatures will be the rule Friday night through the weekend.
Cold daytime highs and overnight lows will allow for sub-zero and single digit wind chills through Monday next week. The lowest wind chills are expected this weekend. A warm-up is on the way, with a warming trend Tuesday though mid-week.
As temperatures are expected to be cold this week, with wind chills below zero over the next few days its important to be knowledgeable of cold impacts on various people.
