The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™ initiative is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events.
NWS Jackson, KY would like to highlight some of the great work one of our most recent Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors, Christian Appalachain Project (CAP) has been been doing. CAP provides immediate assistance to Appalachian areas sustaining damage from floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other major catastrophes. Their Disaster Relief teams — including staff, long-term volunteers, and community volunteers — provide assistance in home and property cleanup and repair, and distribute Emergency Kits with necessary supplies.
CAP is currently working on a Disaster Preparedness Activity book to hand out to approximately 1,000 children who attend their summer camps and will also be speaking about their Disaster Relief Program to all college, church and other organizational groups that come and work a week at a time on home repair from April through October. This briefing will include a hand-out with information on disaster preparedness, how to be safe and keep your family safe, and how to get involved with their community to help others prepare for a disaster.
Robyn Renner, CAP Director of Disaster Relief |
We want to thank Robyn Renner, Director of Disaster Relief, for representing CAP on the Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee's East Kentucky chapter and for being a great partner to the National Weather Service!
Any organization across all levels of government, businesses large and small, non-profit and non-governmental organizations, and academia can become a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador. The WRN Ambassador initiative is intended for organizations and designed to help serve the public by strengthening our national resilience against extreme weather events.
