The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™ initiative is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events. The National Weather Service in Jackson, KY recently recognized WYMT-TV in Hazard as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador.
WYMT-TV has been a trusted source of weather information for decades in eastern Kentucky. The WYMT-TV Sky Alert Weather Team has worked closely with the National Weather Service during times of hazardous weather to ensure their viewers receive timely severe weather alerts. Chief Meteorologist Chris Johnson and his team give numerous school weather presentations and other community outreach events throughout the year geared toward weather safety and preparedness. The WYMT Weather Team has also been a part of the Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee - East since it began in 2012. The committee, which is made up of a diverse group of agencies and organizations, works to foster improved communication, relationships, and planning for future severe weather events affecting eastern Kentucky.
The National Weather Service in Jackson, KY would like to thank WYMT-TV for their partnership!. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the station as we build toward a Weather-Ready East Kentucky.
