Critical Fire Weather and Severe Thunderstorm Threats This Week

Gusty winds and low relative humidity will contribute to critical fire weather Monday over parts of the central and southern High Plains. Scattered to widespread severe thunderstorms may bring damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes Monday through Thursday over the lower Mississippi River Valley and southern Plains into the Midwest and Ohio Valley. A Freeze Warning is in effect for eastern Kentucky tonight into Monday morning. Low temperatures Monday morning are expected to drop into the mid 20s for many of our typically colder valley locations and in the lower 30s for most other locations. Freezing temperatures could damage or kill sensitive vegetation that is left unprotected.
