Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. The potential for very large hail, long track tornadoes, severe wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes and flash flooding are in the outlook. Fort Abercrombie, Dakota Territory
 
1858-1877: The first regular recorded weather reports were created by the US Army Signal Corps at Fort Abercrombie, approximately 30 miles south of Fargo.


 
 
Merchants State Bank
1881-1904: Weather Bureau located at the Merchants State Bank in Moorhead Minnesota.


 
1904-1920: Weather Bureau moved to the Dr. PH Lamb Cottage in Moorhead Minnesota.

1920-1934: Weather Bureau to the U.S. Post Office in Moorhead Minnesota.


 
1934-1953: New Weather Bureau Office relocated to the New Administration Building, at Hector Airport in Fargo North Dakota.

1953-1995: Weather Bureau office relocated to the Terminal Building at Hector Field in Fargo North Dakota. US Weather Bureau renamed National Weather Service in 1970.


 
1995-Present: National Weather Service moved to new facility located in Grand Forks North Dakota.
