Locally Heavy Rainfall for the Carolinas; Thunderstorms and Fire Weather Concerns for Intermountain West

Heavy rainfall from scattered thunderstorms is expected across the Southwest, Intermountain West, and Plains. Isolated dry thunderstorms may initiate additional fires across the west. The coastal Carolinas may experience flash floods in the coming days due to repeated thunderstorms. Office History

1858-1877: The first regular recorded weather reports were created by the US Army Signal Corps at Fort Abercrombie, approximately 30 miles south of Fargo.

1881-1904: Weather Bureau located at the Merchants State Bank in Moorhead Minnesota.

1904-1920: Weather Bureau moved to the Dr. PH Lamb Cottage in Moorhead Minnesota.

1920-1934: Weather Bureau to the U.S. Post Office in Moorhead Minnesota.

1934-1953: New Weather Bureau Office relocated to the New Administration Building, at Hector Airport in Fargo North Dakota.

1953-1995: Weather Bureau office relocated to the Terminal Building at Hector Field in Fargo North Dakota. US Weather Bureau renamed National Weather Service in 1970.

1995-Present: National Weather Service moved to new facility located in Grand Forks North Dakota.
