Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. 1858-1877: The first regular recorded weather reports were created by the US Army Signal Corps at Fort Abercrombie, approximately 30 miles south of Fargo.

1881-1904: Weather Bureau located at the Merchants State Bank in Moorhead Minnesota.


 
1904-1920: Weather Bureau moved to the Dr. PH Lamb Cottage in Moorhead Minnesota.

1920-1934: Weather Bureau to the U.S. Post Office in Moorhead Minnesota.


 
1934-1953: New Weather Bureau Office relocated to the New Administration Building, at Hector Airport in Fargo North Dakota.

1953-1995: Weather Bureau office relocated to the Terminal Building at Hector Field in Fargo North Dakota. US Weather Bureau renamed National Weather Service in 1970.
