Record Heat for the Intermountain West and Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Threats

Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today. Overview

  • A wide swath of 6 to 10 inches of snow fell across parts of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois from the late evening of Feb. 11 into the early morning of Feb. 13.
     
  • Much of the area saw completely snow-covered roads with numerous accidents, towing restrictions, and school and business closures on Feb. 12.
