Arctic Air Mass Lingers for Areas of the East; Critical Fire Weather for the Plains; Active Weather Pattern for Hawaii

Arctic air lingers for the east, however, winds will slowly subside and a slow moderating trend starts during the week. Moisture continues to provide rainfall and higher elevation snow for the Pacific Northwest, northern California and northern Rockies through Monday. Due to an equipment issue, select river gages across the country have not been reporting since Saturday evening, October 20th. The problem lies with an issue with the telemetry system that records and transmits stream gage data on particular types of river gage systems.  This is a national issue and troubleshooting has determined a fix to the problem. The USGS and US Army Corps of Engineers are working to get all gages back online with the hopes to get all gages reporting again this week. Likely, the data will be coming back online sporadically.

We apologize for any inconvenience this lack of data has caused, especially with the ongoing flooding.
