Lake-effect Snow and Whiteout Conditions in the Great Lakes Region; Below-average Temperatures in the East

Heavy lake-effect and lake-enhanced snow will persist downwind of the Great Lakes and produce some whiteout conditions that could cause difficult travel conditions. A coastal low will produce moderate to heavy snow over parts of southern and eastern New England into the afternoon. January 2019 was 3-4 degrees below normal. Cedar Rapids and Moline had their all-time record low temperature broken on Jan 31st with values on -30 degrees and -33 degrees respectively.

Precipitation totals for January 2019 were a half inch to one and a half inches above normal.

Snowfall totals for January 2019 were about 15 to 20 inches above normal.
