...A Review of 2020 Weather and Climate Data for Pine Bluff...
Summary
===================================================================
Even though the average annual temperature was right at the 30-year
mean, 2020 at Pine Bluff was the coolest year since 2014. While lows
were the warmest in two years, highs were actually the coolest in
six years. Though we saw the fewest freezing temperatures in 21
years, we also saw the fewest 90-degree days in three years which
was well below the average of 71.
Pine Bluff also saw no 100-degree days for the 5th year in a row. To
date, there has not been a 100-degree day reported at Pine Bluff
since August 7, 2015. This continues a record streak of 1,973 days
with no 100-degree temperatures at Pine Bluff. The previous record
was 1,132 days from July 9, 1948 to August 14, 1951.
In terms of departures from normal, or (more properly) most above or
below average, January and March were warmest, with a departure of
+3.9 degrees, and October was coolest with a departure of -2.6.
However, going by the averages, the warmest month was July (which is
typical for the area), and the coldest month was December (by
average, January tends to be coolest).
For the third year in a row, rainfall was significantly above
average. Even so, the rainfall amount was the least since 2017. That
being said, it was still the 17th wettest year since records began
in late 1883. There were 136 days with measurable rainfall, which
was the most since 2004. February was the wettest month, and
November was the driest month.
For the fourth year in a row, no measurable snow fell. However,
there were trace amounts of sleet and snow in January, February, and
December. As of December 31, there have been 775 days since
measurable snow fell at Pine Bluff (November 14, 2018). While this
is the longest measurable snowfall drought since the January 22,
1989-January 17, 1992 period of 1,091 days, it is nowhere near the
record of 1,432 days which occurred from February 21, 1936 to
January 22, 1940.
