BY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE...2015 IN ARKANSAS WAS THE WARMEST YEAR IN
THREE YEARS. PRELIMINARILY...IT WAS THE 24TH WARMEST YEAR ON RECORD.
THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE DURING THE YEAR WAS 108...WHICH WAS RECORDED
AT THE MENA AIRPORT ON AUGUST 9TH. THIS WAS THE WARMEST MAXIMUM
TEMPERATURE RECORDED IN THE STATE SINCE 2012.
THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE WAS -1...WHICH WAS RECORDED AT LEAD HILL THE
MORNING OF JANUARY 8TH.
RAINFALL WAS MOST ABUNDANT IN THE SPRING...AND IN THE LATE FALL AND EARLY
WINTER MONTHS. SEPTEMBER WAS THE DRIEST MONTH...AND NOVEMBER WAS THE
WETTEST MONTH. DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE FALL...DROUGHT DEVELOPED IN
MUCH OF CENTRAL AND ALL OF SOUTHERN ARKANSAS. HOWEVER...THE SITUATION
REVERSED ITSELF BEGINNING IN MID OCTOBER...AND BY LATE NOVEMBER...
DROUGHT CONDITIONS WERE GONE.
SNOW FELL IN JANUARY...FEBRUARY...MARCH...NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER. MEASURABLE
SNOW FELL IN JANUARY...FEBRUARY...MARCH AND DECEMBER. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT
WINTER STORMS WERE ON FEBRUARY 25TH-26TH AND MARCH 4TH-5TH. THE FEBRUARY STORM
SAW THE MOST SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS IN THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE STATE.
IMPACTS FROM THE MARCH STORM WERE MORE WIDESPREAD...WITH THE HEAVIEST
ACCUMULATIONS OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF ARKANSAS.
THERE WAS A MINOR ICE STORM IN MID-FEBRUARY...WITH LIGHT FREEZING RAIN
ACCUMULATIONS OVER THE SOUTHWESTERN AND SOUTHEASTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE.
20 TORNADOES TOUCHED DOWN IN THE STATE THIS YEAR...WITH NINE OF THEM IN
DECEMBER ALONE. THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF TORNADOES TO STRIKE THE STATE WITHIN
A YEAR IS 33.

CENTRAL...SOUTH AND WEST. FIVE-DAY TOTALS AVERAGED FROM AROUND THREE TO
OVER SEVEN INCHES OVER THE WOUTH. AREAS NORTH OF CAMDEN AND NEAR WALDO

MINOR FLOODING ALONG RIVERS IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS. ON THE 17TH...STRONG STORMS
PRODUCED WIND DAMAGE NEAR HOT SPRINGS AND SHERIDAN.
NOV. 21 - LIGHT SLEET AND SNOW BRIEFLY FELL AT HARRISON.
NOV. 27-30 -HEAVY RAIN FELL IN MUCH OF THE STATE. SIX TO NEARLY TEN INCHES FELL
FROM CENTRAL INTO WESTERN ARKANSAS. THE RAIN CAUSED SOME FLASH FLOODING...
WITH ROADS IN SEVERAL COUNTIES BEING SHUT DOWN...AND SOME SWIFT WATER RESCUES
IN HOT SPRING AND GARLAND COUNTIES. THERE WAS ALSO MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING
ON AREA RIVERS.

DEC. 23RD - LINES OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCED WIND DAMAGE
ACROSS THE NORTHWEST HALF OF THE STATE. TREES WERE BLOWN DOWN IN POPE
COUNTY...AND ONE TREE FELL ON A HOUSE...KILLING ONE PERSON. TREES
WERE BLOWN DOWN IN MOUNTAIN VIEW...WITH SOME ON HOUSES. A BARN WAS DESTROYED.
DAMAGE WAS REPORTED AT HIGHLAND IN SHARP COUNTY AS WELL. A WEAK EF1 TORNADO
DESTROYED PART OF A HOME NEAR BEE BRANCH...AND AN EF2 TORNADO DAMAGED HOUSES
AND GRAIN SILOS SOUTH OF MARIANNA.
DEC. 26TH-28TH - THERE WERE SEVERAL DAYS OF HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG TO SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS. RAINFALL TOTALS OVER A GOOD PORTION OF THE STATE RANGED FROM
SIX TO TEN INCHES...WITH SOME AREAS IN THE NORTHWEST AND WEST EXCEEDING
15 INCHES. THE HEAVY RAINS CAUSED FLASH FLOODING...AS WELL AS MODERATE TO SEVERE
FLOODING ON MOST RIVERS IN THE STATE. STAGES AT MANY POINTS ON THE ARKANSAS
RIVER WERE THE HIGHEST SINCE THE SPRING FLOOD OF 1990. STAGES ON THE UPPER
WHITE RIVER AT SOME LOCATIONS WERE THE HIGHEST SINCE THE SPRING FLOOD OF 2008.
THERE WAS ONE FATALITY NEAR DOVER IN POPE COUNTY. SEVERAL WEAK TORNADOES
TOUCHED DOWN ON THE AFTERNOON OF THE 27TH...AND ONE ON THE MORNING OF THE 28TH.
THE STRONGEST ONE WAS AN EF2...WHICH DESTROYED A MOBILE HOME AND DAMAGED ROOFS
8 TO 10 MILES SOUTHWEST OF MARIANNA. ON THE AFTERNOON OF THE 28TH...40 TO 50 MPH
GRADIENT WIND GUSTS WERE RECORDED AT JONESBORO...LITTLE ROCK...WALNUT RIDGE...
