Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding Concerns in California; Heavy Snow in the Sierra

An atmospheric river will bring heavy rainfall to lower elevations of California this week, and heavy snow to the Sierra Nevada mountains. Flash flooding, some of which may be locally considerable, will be a concern on the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains through Tuesday. Here's a review of October's weather at a few select locations. In short, October was a continuation of September with below normal precipitation and above normal temperatures across the board. Over the past 2 months, from September 1st through October 31st, Aberdeen (at the airport) has received just 0.21" of moisture which ranks as the 2nd least on record during this time (0.10" in 1952).
