Extreme Fire Weather Concerns; Severe Thunderstorms from the Plains to Mississippi Valley

Extremely critical fire weather concerns for portions of the southern High Plans as strong wind and very dry conditions could result in rapid spread of any fires. Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms are expected once again across areas of the Central and Southern Plains, then spreading in the Mississippi Valley regions on Monday. A low pressure system is set to strengthen as it travels over the northern plains Tuesday night, and could result in areas of severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and damaging winds by early Tuesday evening and on through the overnight hours. An isolated tornado threat also exists.

Currently, if thunderstorms develop, they are timed to move into central and north central South Dakota Tuesday late afternoon/early evening and spread east to the border with Minnesota early Wednesday morning.
