Fire Weather Concerns in the Southern Plains and Southeast; Pacific System to Bring Unsettled Weather to the West Coast

Gusty winds and dry conditions will continue to bring elevated to critical fire weather conditions to the southern Plains and Southeast early this week. A Pacific storm system will bring low elevation rain and heavy high elevation mountain snow to northern and central California through early week, expanding into the Pacific Northwest, Great Basin, and southern California on Tuesday. A low pressure system is set to strengthen as it travels over the northern plains Tuesday night, and could result in areas of severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and damaging winds by early Tuesday evening and on through the overnight hours. An isolated tornado threat also exists.

Currently, if thunderstorms develop, they are timed to move into central and north central South Dakota Tuesday late afternoon/early evening and spread east to the border with Minnesota early Wednesday morning.
