Tracking Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall in the Southern U.S.; Winter Storm to Impact the Northern U.S.

A storm system will shift from eastern Texas into the lower Mississippi Valley Monday with additional threats of severe thunderstorms and heavy to excessive rainfall which may bring flooding. A Flood Watch remains in effect. In the northern U.S., a storm will bring heavy snow and gusty winds over parts of the northern Rockies, northern Plains, and Upper Midwest Monday into Wednesday. No Specialized Experience is Needed - Everyone is Welcome!!

 

Cherry County Storm Spotter Training:
Monday, June 13, 2022 at 6 PM CDT - Niobrara National Scenic River Visitor Center - 214 US-20, Valentine, Nebraska

 

The National Weather Service (NWS) Office in North Platte is excited to announce one additional storm spotter training session for the 2022 spotter season.  This FREE training session is being offered in collaboration with our friends at the Niobrara National Scenic River (National Park Service) and Cherry County Emergency Management.   All interested spotters are welcome to attend.  Topics that will  be covered are:

  • 2021 Severe Weather Season in Review
  • Basics of Thunderstorm and Tornado Development
  • Thunderstorm Modes and Hazards
  • Identifying Key Thunderstorm Features
