Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. October Precipitation Highlights:

October was drier than normal across the region, with areas north of I-70 around an inch below normal and areas south of I-70 two to three inches below normal.

October Temperature Highlights:

Temperatures averaged near to slightly below normal during the first half of the month, but a cold snap and hard freeze occurred from the 17th to the 19th.
Temperatures warmed to above normal on the 21st and 22nd, with highs soring into the 80s at many sites, but it was short lived and temperatures quickly returned to near normal where they stayed for the remainder of the month.

November Look Ahead:

The Climate Prediction Center suggests that temperatures for the month of November will lean above normal for central Illinois, while precipitation chances lean slightly towards below normal across eastern Illinois.
