Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. The potential for very large hail, long track tornadoes, severe wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes and flash flooding are in the outlook. October Precipitation Highlights:

October was drier than normal across the region, with areas north of I-70 around an inch below normal and areas south of I-70 two to three inches below normal.

There were no daily precipitation records during the month.

October Temperature Highlights:

Temperatures averaged near to slightly below normal during the first half of the month, but a cold snap and hard freeze occurred from the 17th to the 19th.
Temperatures warmed to above normal on the 21st and 22nd, with highs soring into the 80s at many sites, but it was short lived and temperatures quickly returned to near normal where they stayed for the remainder of the month.

Record warm low temperature of 62 F was set at Peoria on October 23rd.

November Look Ahead:
