Locally Heavy Rainfall for the Carolinas; Thunderstorms and Fire Weather Concerns for Intermountain West

Heavy rainfall from scattered thunderstorms is expected across the Southwest, Intermountain West, and Plains. Isolated dry thunderstorms may initiate additional fires across the west. The coastal Carolinas may experience flash floods in the coming days due to repeated thunderstorms. Note that the most rain ever recorded within the city of Sioux Falls was
7.52 inches in parts of southwest Sioux Falls between 5 pm and 10 pm on
August 27, 2015. Generally 4 to 8 inches fell over most of the southern half
of Sioux Falls, with considerable flash flooding across the southern portions
of the city.  There was also 7.50 inches in a small part of southwest Sioux
Falls between 4 am and 8 am on June 16th in 2004. Southwest Sioux Falls was also
the target with 7.46 inches 4 PM and 7 PM on May 22nd 1993, which resulted in
some of the worst flash flooding in Sioux Falls history.
