Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. Overview

Training thunderstorms in a very moist atmosphere produced record-breaking rainfall in the city of Sioux Falls. Given ongoing drought conditions, the very heavy rainfall led to minimal flooding, mostly within the city limits. Area rivers and streams handled the heavy rain well, with rapid within-bank rises, but no river flooding was observed.
