Overview

After a day with significant winds across the region, a strong cold front approached during the evening of Sunday, October 11th.  This cold front sparked thunderstorms across eastern Nebraska and South Dakota which pushed eastward through the evening into Minnesota and Iowa.

Storms produced large hail in some locations, along with strong straight line winds.  Thunderstorms also brought beneficial rainfall to portions of the region with rainfall totals averaging from 0.25" to as much as 2.8".

Ahead of these storms, several significant agricultural fires developed in the Tri-State area.  The largest fire took place near Anthon, IA where a 1 mile wide fire consumed over 7 miles of farmland.   Fire agencies across Woodbury county responded to this fire.  Fortunately no buildings were lost or damaged due to the fire.
