Severe Weather and Flash Flooding Threat Continues in the Central and Southern Plains; Heavy Mountain Snow in the Intermountain West

Heavy rain and severe weather will continue across the central and southern Plains through the weekend. Tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds and flash flooding will be the primary threats. Severe Thunderstorms Cause Wind Damage on August 7, 2012
 
Event Summary

Severe thunderstorms developed during the late afternoon and evening hours on Tuesday, August 7.  All of the severe weather reports were in the form of convective wind and wind damage.  In Amarillo, damage from a very small scale microburst caused damage at the VA Hospital.  The damage was determined to have been caused by winds between 75 and 80 mph.  A center pivot system sustained damage in Wheeler County near New Mobeetie.  In addition, sporadic but beneficial rainfall fell in some locations, including 1.42 inches at McLean, TX.  If you have any hail pictures that you would like to share, please e-mail us at sr-ama.webmaster@noaa.gov or share them with us on Facebook.
