Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. The potential for very large hail, long track tornadoes, severe wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes and flash flooding are in the outlook. Not as hot this afternoon with more seasonable temperatures for this time of year in early July. Another round of widely scattered thunderstorms with more ample moisture today and into tomorrow as well.
As moisture surges up into the region widespread rain showers and thunderstorms will develop Thursday afternoon. The heavier showers or storms may produce locally heavy rain, with a marginal risk for some minor flooding.
The climate summaries for June are now available for our climate sites. The month was warmer and drier than normal. High pressure and cold fronts took turns across the region for warm, wet days replaced with colder days. There were a few new record highs and lows set in June.
