Back-to-Back Pacific Storms to Impact the West Coast; Heavy Snow in the Central Appalachians

Back-to-back powerful Pacific storm systems to impact the Pacific Northwest and northern California through the end of this week with heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and higher elevation mountain snow. The October 2019 climate summaries for Big Piney, Buffalo, Casper, Greybull, Lake Yellowstone, Lander, Riverton, Rock Springs, and Worland are now available online.

October 2019 was very much colder across the Cowboy State for all of our climate sites, averaging 8 to 11 degrees below normal. A majority of them broke their previous records for coldest October. There were also many daily low temperature records broken throughout the month. The warmest daily temperatures happened mainly on the 16th and 17th, with highs in the low to upper 70s. Then, on the 28th the cold, arctic air arrived. The last 4 days of the month saw temperatures dropping into the negative range everywhere but Greybull. Big Piney came in with the coldest low on the 30th, with -26 degrees. Casper, Lander, and Worland all had a record low October, and these locations have records dating back a very long way. Precipitation totals across the climate locations were split between above and below normal for the month. There were only a few daily rainfall records broken in October. The bigger surprise was the early season snowfall across the area, although no records were broken.

You can then find the Daily Climate Report (CLI), the Preliminary Monthly Climate Data (CF6), the Monthly Weather Summary (CLM), and the Regional Summary (RTP). The Daily Climate Report will have the weather data for the day (from midnight to 1159 pm). The Monthly Climate Data (CF6) will have this data for each day of the month, compiling all the daily data into one form. The Regional Summary will have temperature and precipitation data for various locations across the state, updated 3 times a day.
