Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. The August 2018 climate summaries for Big Piney, Buffalo, Casper, Greybull, Lake Yellowstone, Lander, Riverton, Rock Springs, and Worland are now available online.

August 2018 was a mostly cooler than average month across Wyoming. Only Big Piney and Rock Springs had above average temperatures. The month was also slightly more on the dry side, with only Buffalo, Greybull and Worland having above normal precipitation. There were several daily high temperature records broken, as well as a few new daily lows. Greybull also tied the record for All-Time high temperature for the month of August, reaching 105 degrees on the 12th. A few new daily precipitation records were also set in August.
