High-Impact and Far-Reaching Winter Storm Continues; Cold Expands and Persists

A major winter storm will shift its impacts into the Northeast U.S. with heavy snow through tonight while over the Mid-Atlantic, sleet and freezing rain will diminish. Extremely cold air behind the storm will prolong dangerous travel and infrastructure impacts.   Overview

December 21, 2017  A strong cold front pushed south across Wyoming Wednesday afternoon and evening.  Strong north winds accompanied the front with the Buffalo Airport recording a peak wind gust of 54 mph Wednesday evening. The heaviest snow fell across the WInd River Basin and in the Casper area Wednesday night, with over 8 inches of snow measured in Lander, and nearly 7 inches of snow reported at the Natrona International Airport in Casper.
