JAN--COOL WITH THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE 3.8 DEGREES
     BELOW NORMAL. MOIST WITH 19.3 INCHES OF SNOW
     FOR THE MONTH,  WELL ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 6 INCHES. 
     A SNOW STORM ON THE 15-16TH  DROPPED SNOW FROM PUEBLO
     TO WALSENBURG.  ANOTHER STORM ON THE  26TH-27th LEFT SNOW
     FROM COLORADO SPRINGS, SOUTH ALONG I-25 TO TRINIDAD.
FEB--COOL AND MOIST CONTINUES WITH THE AVERAGE MONTHLY
     TEMPERATURE ALMOST 4 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. SNOW-
     FALL OF 4.7 INCHES WAS JUST ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 4.3 INCHES.
MAR--TEMPERATURES AND SNOWFALL BELOW NORMAL. FROM THE 15TH TO THE
     17TH, WINDS GUSTED BETWEEN 60 TO 70 MPH OVER THE REGION AND
     HEAVY SNOW FELL OVER WESTERN PUEBLO AND EASTERN FREMONT 
     COUNTIES. 
APR--TEMPERATURES CLIMBED ABOVE NORMAL THIS MONTH BUT
     SNOWFALL WAS BELOW NORMAL. STRONG WINDS ON THE 11TH 
     BLEW DOWN HUNDREDS OF POWER POLES AND DID MUCH
     DAMAGE TO SIGNS, ROOF TOPS AND BUILDINGS.
MAY--COOL AND WET WITH THE AVERAGE MONTHLY  TEMPERATURE 2.2 
     DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. PRECIPITATION OF 2.67 INCHES WAS WELL
     ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 1.25 INCHES.  ON THE 3RD AND 4TH WET, 
     HEAVY SNOWFALL OF 50 INCHES AT SALIDA, AROUND 20 INCHES AT 
     WESTCLIFFE AND 19 INCHES AT BUENA VISTA CAUSED MUCH DAMAGE.
     A PORTION OF  HIGHWAY 50 BETWEEN TEXAS CREEK AND PARKDALE WAS
     CLOSED FOR A WEEK TO CLEAR A MUDSLIDE OFF THE HIGHWAY AND
     REPAIR IT. THUNDERSTORM WINDS WITH GUSTS TO 86  MPH ON THE 
     20TH DID CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE IN PUEBLO WEST AND AT PUEBLO 
     RESERVOIR. BOATS WERE OVERTURNED AND 2 MARINAS DAMAGED.  ON THE
     29TH, THE FIRST OF 7 TORNADOS STRUCK WEST OF LAMAR EARLY IN THE 
     DAY WITH 3 INCH HAIL, DAMAGING 5 VEHICLES AND DESTROYING A 
     HOUSE NEAR THE AIRPORT.
JUN--TYPICAL JUNE WEATHER WITH TEMPERATURES NEAR NORMAL AND
     LIQUID WATER ONLY .15 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.  ON THE 7TH,
     A STRONG STORM HIT THE FORT LYON AREA WITH HEAVY RAIN
     AND LARGE HAIL. HIGHWAY 50 WAS UNDER WATER FOR NEARLY
     AN HOUR. THE VA MEDICAL CENTER HAD A SEVERELY DAMAGED
     TILE ROOF, MANY WINDOWS BROKEN, AND MAJOR DAMAGE
     TO THE GROUNDS. CROPS IN THE SURROUNDING AREA WERE
     TOTALLY DESTROYED. ON THE 20TH A THUNDERSTORM BROUGHT
     HEAVY RAIN AND HAIL TO THE BEULAH-COLORADO CITY AREA, 
     AND A  BANK ROOF COLLAPSED DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF RAIN
     AND HAIL ON THE ROOF.
JUL--THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE AND PRECIPITATION WERE
     BOTH ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MONTH.  ON THE 10TH STRONG WINDS
     CAUSED TREE DAMAGE AND LEFT  MANY RESIDENTS OF PUEBLO WEST
     WITHOUT POWER FOR AN HOUR, AND SOME WITHOUT POWER FOR 18
     HOURS.  ON THE 23RD THUNDERSTORM WINDS BLEW DOWN 1 MILE
     OF POWER LINES ALONG HIGHWAY 101, SOUTH OF LAS ANIMAS.  IT 
     TOOK 2 TO 3 WEEKS TO REPLACE THE POLES. 
AUG--NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH. ON
     THE 5TH, NORTHEAST FREMONT COUNTY RECEIVED 5 INCHES OF RAIN 
     IN 3 HOURS, CAUSING FLOODING ON SOME ROADS AND STREAMS. 
SEP--NORMAL TEMPERATURES WITH PRECIPITATION BELOW NORMAL. ON THE
     17TH, SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WERE OVER NORTHERN OTERO COUNTY 
     WITH 2 3/4 INCH HAIL. THE STORM KILLED OVER 1600 BIRDS OF 
     VARIOUS KINDS AT HOLBROOK LAKE AND BROKE MANY WINDOWS. 
OCT--COOL AND DRY.  THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE WAS 1.5
     DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.  WITH ONLY .07 RAINFALL, THIS WAS
     7TH DRIEST OCTOBER ON RECORD, AND WITH NO SNOW, THIS WAS
     THE LEAST SNOWIEST OCTOBER EVER RECORDED.
NOV--TEMPERATURES WERE 1.7 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL AND 
     PRECIPITATION WAS NORMAL. SNOWFALL OF 2.1 INCHES WAS 
     BELOW THE NORMAL OF 3.6 INCHES.
DEC--A NORMAL MONTH FOR TEMPERATURES, BUT MOISTURE WAS
     WELL BELOW NORMAL.  ONLY 2.9 INCHES OF SNOW (NORMAL 5.9)
     AND ONLY A TRACE OF SNOW ON THE GROUND ON CHRISTMAS DAY.
