...2000 WEATHER SUMMARY...

JAN...THE TEMPERATURE AND SNOWFALL WERE ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MONTH.  
      NEARLY 7 INCHES OF SNOW FELL FROM THE 26TH THROUGH THE 28TH. 
FEB...THIS WAS A WARM AND DRY MONTH WITH THE TEMPERATURE 6.0 DEGREES 
      ABOVE NORMAL AND ONLY 2 INCHES OF SNOW (THE NORMAL IS 7.1")    
      ON THE 17TH A THUNDERSTORM WAS RECORDED WITH SNOW. 
MAR...THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE WAS 1.7 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.  
      SNOWFALL FOR MARCH NORMALLY IS 12 INCHES...AND THIS MONTH 12.6 
      INCHES WAS RECORDED.
APR...APRIL SHOWERS WERE SCARCE AS RAIN AND SNOWFALL WERE BOTH BELOW
      NORMAL AND TEMPERATURES ABOVE NORMAL AGAIN.  AT MID MONTH      
      STRONG WINDS BLEW DOWN A POWER LINE THAT STARTED A GRASS       
      FIRE ON FORT CARSON WHICH CONSUMED 800 ACRES OF TREES AND      
      BRUSH.
MAY...THE TEMPERATURE AVERAGED 4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL...BUT          
      PRECIPITATION WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL.  AGAIN AT MID             
      MONTH...STRONG WINDS CAUSED POWER OUTAGES AND BLEW DOWN MANY   
      SIGNS AND TREES ACROSS THE CITY.
JUN...BOTH TEMPERATURE AND RAINFALL WERE BELOW NORMAL.  ON THE 19TH  
      WINDS AT THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY GUSTED TO 64 MPH.
JUL...THE TEMPERATURE WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL...BUT RAINFALL WAS   
      BELOW NORMAL AGAIN.  ON THE 25TH...LIGHTNING STRUCK AND KILLED 
      A YOUNG MAN NEAR THE SUMMIT OF PIKES PEAK.
AUG...IT WAS WARM AND WET...WITH 5.82 INCHES OF RAIN LOGGED AT       
      THE AIRPORT (THE NORMAL IS 3.02 INCHES). A THUNDERSTORM        
      STARTED A WILDFIRE SOUTHEAST OF FOUNTAIN THAT BURNED 2500      
      ACRES.
SEP...THE TEMPERATURE AVERAGED ALMOST 2 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL...BUT   
      LESS THAN 1/2 OF THE NORMAL RAINFALL OCCURRED.  FROM THE 23RD  
      TO THE 24TH THE SEASONS FIRST SNOWFALL BROUGHT UP TO 4 INCHES  
      ACROSS PARTS OF THE CITY.
OCT...IT WAS A NEAR NORMAL MONTH FOR TEMPERATURE AND                 
      PRECIPITATION.  THE LAST THUNDERSTORM OF THE SEASON OCCURRED   
      ON THE 4TH. 
NOV...IT WAS VERY COLD AND DRY. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 7.5      
      DEGREES BELOW NORMAL...MAKING THIS THE 2ND COLDEST NOVEMBER ON 
      RECORD SINCE 1900.
DEC...TEMPERATURES NEVER ROSE ABOVE FREEZING FROM THE 10TH THROUGH   
      THE 14TH (99 HOURS IN A ROW).  THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS     
      WELL BELOW NORMAL.  SNOWFALL WAS ALSO WELL BELOW NORMAL.
