May of 2026 started

For the month as a whole, well above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation was experienced across south central and southeast Colorado, save for pockets at and above normal precipitation across the southwest mountains.

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of May was 51.2 degrees. This is 0.5 degrees below normal and makes May of 2026 the 52nd coolest May on record in Alamosa, well ahead of the May of 1953,  when the average temperature was 46.7 degrees. The average May maximum temperature in Alamosa was 71.0 degrees, which is 1.2 degrees above normal.  The average May minimum temperature in Alamosa was 31.4 degrees, which is 2.2 degrees below normal.  Alamosa recorded 0.28 inches of precipitation through the month of May. This is 0.32 inches below normal and makes May of 2026 the 33rd driest May on record.  Alamosa recorded a trace of snow through the month of May, which is 0.8 inches below normal.  This brings the final 2025-26 seasonal snowfall tally in Alamosa to 11.1 inches, which is 16.8 inches below normal and makes the 2025-2026 snow season the 6th lowest on record in Alamosa.  (ALS POR: 1932-2026)    

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of May was 55.3 degrees. This is 1.8F below normal and makes May of 2026 the 69th coldest May on record, well ahead of the coldest May of 1917 when the average temperature was  46.7F.  The average May maximum temperature in Colorado Springs was 67.9 degrees, which is 2.8 degrees below normal. The average May minimum temperature in Colorado Springs was 42.7 degrees, which is 0.8 degrees below normal. Colorado Springs recorded 0.92 inches of precipitation throughout the month of May. This is 1.07 inches below normal and makes May of 2026 the 30th driest May on record. Colorado Springs recorded 1.6 inches of snow in May, which is 1.0 inches above normal.  This brings the final 2025-26 seasonal snowfall tally in Colorado Springs to 26.3 inches, which  is 6.0 inches below normal. (COS POR: 1895-2026)    

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of May was 60.63 degrees. This is 0.8 degrees below normal and makes May of 2026 the 78th coldest May on record, well behind the coldest May of 1917, when the average temperature was 53.2F. The average May maximum temperature in Pueblo was 75.9 degrees, which is 1.3 degrees below normal. The average May minimum temperature in Pueblo was 45.3 degrees, which is 0.3 degrees below normal. Pueblo recorded 0.80 inches of precipitation in May. This is 0.77 inches below normal and makes May of 2026 the 35th driest May on record. Pueblo recorded 0.5 inches of snow in May, which is 0.5 inches above normal.  This will bring the final 2025-26 seasonal snowfall tally in Pueblo to 14.1 inches, which is 14.2 inches below normal and makes the 2025-26 snow season the 10th least snowiest on record in Pueblo. Looking ahead into June in Alamosa, the average high and low temperatures of 76 degrees and 37 degrees on June 1st, warm to 83 degrees and 45 degrees by the end of the month.  The average temperature for the month of June in Alamosa is 60.6 degrees.  Alamosa averages 0.43 inches of precipitation through the month of June.             

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperatures of 77 degrees and 49 degrees on June 1st, warm to 86 degrees and 56 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of June in Colorado Springs is 67.2 degrees.  Colorado Springs averages 2.27 inches of precipitation through the month of June.           

In Pueblo, the average high and low temperatures of 84 degrees and 51 degrees on June 1st, warm to 93 degrees and 59 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of June in Pueblo is 71.8 degrees. Pueblo averages 1.28 inches of precipitation through the month of June.
