Cold Front Moving Through the Northeast U.S. Monday; Atmospheric River to Impact the Pacific Northwest Midweek

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through Monday with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is expected to move into the Pacific Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. February of 2025 saw up and down temperatures and precipitation, especially across eastern Colorado, where a few polar intrusions brought periods of very cold temperatures and precipitation to southeast Colorado. For the month as a whole, above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation was experienced across south central Colorado, where as southeast Colorado saw generally below normal temperatures with near to slightly below normal precipitation.   

The following graphics depict monthly temperature and precipitation departures from normal across the state for the past month of February.

 

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of February was 34.1 degrees. This is 9.8 degrees above normal and makes February of 2025 the warmest February on record, surpassing the 33.2F February average temperature in 1995. The average February maximum temperature in Alamosa was 52.8 degrees, which is 11.6 degrees above normal. The average February minimum temperature in Alamosa was 15.4 degrees, which is 8.0 degrees above normal.  Alamosa recorded 0.12 inches of precipitation through the month of February, which is 0.16 inches below normal and makes February of 2025 the 28th driest on record. Alamosa recorded 2.0 inches of snow in February, which is 2.1 inches below normal and makes February of 2025 as the 31st least snowiest on record.  Alamosa tied or set seven record high temperatures through the month of February, along with setting a new record high temperature for the month of February of 67 degrees on February 3rd, 2025. (ALS POR: 1932-2024   

 

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of February was 32.5 degrees, which is 0.9 degrees below normal. The February average maximum temperature in Colorado Springs was 46.1 degrees, which is 0.4 degrees below normal. The average February minimum temperature in Colorado Springs was 18.9 degrees, which is 1.3 degrees below normal. Colorado Springs recorded 0.28 inches of precipitation through the month of February, which is 0.04 inches below normal. Colorado Springs recorded 7.1 inches of snow in February, which is 2.5 inches above normal.

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of February was 33.5 degrees, which is 1.6 degrees below normal. The average February maximum temperature in Pueblo was 49.6 degrees, which is 1.5 degrees below normal. The average February minimum temperature in Pueblo was 17.4 degrees, which is 1.6 degrees below normal. Pueblo recorded 0.18 inches of precipitation through the month of February, which is 0.14 inches below normal.  Pueblo recorded 3.6 inches of snow in February, which is 1.1 inches below normal. (PUB POR: 1888-2024)  

 

Looking ahead into March in Alamosa, the average high and low temperatures of 47 degrees and 13 degrees on March 1st, warm to 57 degrees and 21 degrees by the end of the month.  The average temperature for the month of March in Alamosa is 35.2 degrees.  Alamosa averages 0.54 inches of precipitation and 4.3 inches of snow through the month of March.           

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperatures of 50 degrees and 23 degrees on March 1st, warm to 58 degrees and 31 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of March in Colorado Springs is 41.1 degrees.  Colorado Springs averages 0.79 inches of precipitation and 5.7 inches of snow through the month of March.  On average, March is the snowiest month of the year in Colorado Springs.      

In Pueblo, the average high and low temperatures of 55 degrees and 23 degrees on March 1st, warm to 65 degrees and 31 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of March in Pueblo is 43.9 degrees. Pueblo averages 0.82 inches of precipitation and 4.5 inches of snow through the month of March.
