Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. Here’s a timeline of the upcoming heat wave. Saturday through Monday are currently favored to have the hottest and most humid conditions. Overnight lows will be balmy with heat indices remaining above 80F through midnight each night. Hot conditions may continue into the middle of next week, as well.
Oppressive heat and humidity is on track to arrive on Saturday and last through at least Monday. Here’s a snapshot of the peak temperatures and heat index values during that time period.
An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for Chicago and all of Cook County where the urban heat island effect will exasperate the heat wave. While the daytime hours will be oppressively hot, the overnight hours will offer limited relief with heat index values remaining over 80 through midnight.
Here’s a look at the forecast through early next week. A heat wave will arrive this weekend and continue through at least Monday. The “best” chance for rain will be this afternoon and again tomorrow morning, though amounts won’t be as widespread or high as yesterday.
