Severe thunderstorms will be possible from the central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Monday. Scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop and track through the area this afternoon. A few storms could be strong to severe with localized damaging winds as the primary hazard. Otherwise, expect lightning, downpours, and gusty winds with most other storms.
Periodic shower and storm chances are in the forecast for the next few days, though plenty of dry time is still expected. Generally near to below normal temperatures are expected through the end of the week.
Hot and humid conditions are likely to develop across the region next week. High temperatures may exceed 90°F, and peak heat index values may exceed 100°F for several consecutive days.
