A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. April 2020 was cooler than normal overall after a mild start, driven especially by a mid month cold snap when there were a few accumulating snow events. This resulted in much of the area finishing the month well above normal snowfall wise and bringing the Fall-Spring seasonal snowfall closer to normal. Precipitation was below normal for most of the area until late in the month when there were two significant rainfall events. A swath from central Illinois to northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana finished with above normal rainfall due to these events. The April 28-29 rainfall event caused widespread river flooding in the affected areas.
