Cold Front Moving Through the Northeast U.S. Monday; Atmospheric River to Impact the Pacific Northwest Midweek

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through Monday with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is expected to move into the Pacific Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. Snow will move into the area from southwest to northeast tonight and continue through much of Friday morning.  Snow will be fairly steady but there will be periodic bouts of more intense snowfall at times as indicated by the green and blue shaded bars on the graphs below.  Snow accumulation should mainly occur on grassy and elevated surfaces which may include bridges and overpasses.  The more intense bouts of snow may result in slushy conditions on some roadways. Light snow will continue into mid or late morning before ending.  Motorists should use caution and be prepared for the possibility of some slick spots tonight and through the morning commute.  Slow down and allow extra time.
