Overview

This past March featured average temperatures that were about 4-6 degrees above normal across the area. It was also a wetter March than normal for most, though it featured very little snow outside of a heavy snow band that dumped several inches of snow over far northern Illinois on the 22nd.

...A Look Back at the Climate for the Month of March 2024 for
Chicago and Rockford...

At Chicago, the average high temperature was 52.9 degrees, which
is 5.9 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was
35.1 degrees, which is 4.1 degrees above normal. The average
temperature for the month was 44.0 degrees, which is 5.0 degrees
above normal. 3.59 inches of liquid precipitation were recorded,
which is 1.14 inches above normal. 1.0 inches of snow were
recorded, which is 4.5 inches below normal.

No daily or top ten monthly records were set for Chicago during
this past March.

At Rockford, the average high temperature was 53.4 degrees, which
is 6.9 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was
32.3 degrees, which is 4.2 degrees above normal. The average
temperature for the month was 42.8 degrees, which is 5.5 degrees
above normal. 4.58 inches of liquid precipitation were recorded,
which is 2.18 inches above normal. 5.6 inches of snow were
recorded, which is 0.7 inches above normal.
