Record Heat for the Intermountain West and Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Threats

Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today. March 14-15 Severe Weather Event. Thank you to our storm spotters, broadcast media, and followers for your reports! A strong, early spring low pressure system brought inclement weather over a large portion of the U.S. Locally, a line of storms tracked across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana during the late evening of March 14th into the early morning hours of March 15th, bringing widespread damaging winds and even a few tornadoes. Poor air quality also occurred on March 15th as dust and smoke was blown in from wildfires and dust storms in the southern Plains. Confirmed Tornadoes: Yorkville, IL  EF-0. Bartlett - Hanover Park, IL  EF-0. Cedar Lake, IN  EF-1. Schererville - Merrillville, IN  EF-0.
