Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible through early Wednesday morning across parts of northeast Texas into western Tennessee. Read More >

Dew Points are Often a Better Indicator than Humidity for How the Air Feels!
The hot and humid air mass that blanketed the area on Wednesday and Thursday is on the high end of oppressive humidity that we can experience in the summer. Did you know that the dew point temperature is a better way to quantify how the air feels in the summer? In the inset chart scaling dew point temperatures to how the air feels, you can see that oppressive-feeling dew points start around 75°, so the widespread upper 70s to lower 80s dew points (and locally mid 80s near farm fields) that occurred on Wednesday and Thursday are well into the “oppressive” range. With air temperatures well into the 90s to around 100°, dew points this high directly contribute to the greatly increased risk of heat-related illnesses posed by the extreme heat. |
