Cold Front Moving Through the Northeast U.S. Monday; Atmospheric River to Impact the Pacific Northwest Midweek

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through Monday with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is expected to move into the Pacific Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. Fast Facts:

  • Three to five inches of rain fell across the Rockford metro and adjacent locations between 5:30 pm and 9 pm, with additional frequent thunderstorms through the remainder of the night.
  • The rainfall produced significant flash flooding, especially across Rockford, with parts of numerous roads covered in several feet of water. 
  • According to the Rockford Fire Department, there were approximately 15 water rescues from vehicles, as well as multiple homes and buildings with flooding.  No injuries were reported.
