Cold Front Moving Through the Northeast U.S. Monday; Atmospheric River to Impact the Pacific Northwest Midweek

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through Monday with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is expected to move into the Pacific Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY, is welcoming a new meteorologist to our office, Chase Graham!  Chase comes to us from North Carolina, and he earned a Masters Degree from NC State. His thesis was on the verification of high resolution models and how they handle high shear and low instability environments, a common feature in our region, especially in the winter time.  With his studies at UNC Asheville, Chase worked on the VORTEX-SE field project conducting ground-based and aerial damage surveys to better understand the connections built and natural environments, and how this affects the level of tornado damage in a community.  We are excited to see how Chase uses his skills to forecast for southern IN and central KY.
