Clear and Cooler Temperatures Across Much of the Eastern U.S.; Heavy Rain in Florida

A high pressure system is bringing mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures across much of the eastern U.S. to the Mid-South. A stationary front will produce thunderstorms and heavy rain across the Florida Peninsula to the immediate Southeastern coast. If you think it's been unusually hot lately, that's because these temperatures are more typical of July! Average temperatures through the first week of October were around 15 degrees above normal. Lexington, KY recorded its warmest first week of October on record. Meanwhile, it was the second warmest first week of October on record at Louisville, Frankfort, and Bowling Green. 

 

Lexington's previous warmest first week of October on record occurred in 1941, when the average temperature was 77.1 degrees. Louisville's warmest first week of October on record had an average temperature of 79.5 degrees in 1884.
