Areas of Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall Today

Scattered severe thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts and some hail are expected this afternoon and evening from the Upper Ohio River Valley into the Northeast, and from the Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic States. Summer 2018 Student Volunteer Program

Typical student volunteers complete various research projects and other assigned tasks. Students also have the opportunity to learn about NWS forecast duties and operations. During severe weather, students assist with social media, gather storm reports, etc. Students may participate in storm damage surveys and other familiarization trips across central Kentucky and south-central Indiana as time and resources allow. Students also gain forecast and warning operations experience through shadowing NWS forecasters as well as receiving severe storm training through our Weather Event Simulator.
