Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. The potential for very large hail, long track tornadoes, severe wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes and flash flooding are in the outlook. Indiana University Southeast in New Albany was recognized today as a StormReady University. IUS becomes the 7th StormReady University in the state of Indiana, and the second IU regional campus to gain this recognition. The recent growth of the university, with the addition of five residence halls in 2008, poses unique challenges in public safety. The Campus Police Department, and IU Emergency Management, have met those challenges with a proactive Adverse Weather Plan and by building a partnership with the National Weather Service in Louisville.
