Lowell to Impact Hawaii; Heat Persists in the South-Central U.S.

Hurricane Lowell is forecast to pass west of Kauai`s coastal waters tonight. Impacts such as high surf and heavy rain could impact all of the islands. Sweltering heat remains across the South-Central Plains and Lower/Middle Mississippi Valley into this week with limited nighttime relief. Unfortunately we are no longer able to generate the temperature and precipitation maps with the method we have been using for the past several years. We are working on finding another way to produce these maps each day.

In the meantime, check the "News Headlines" section at the top of our main web page on days that a precipitation map is generated (using a method we're currently experimenting with). We usually post the maps sometime between 11am and noon Eastern Time when precipitation has occurred over approximately the previous 24 hours.
