Tracking Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall in the Southern U.S.; Winter Storm to Impact the Northern U.S.

A storm system will shift from eastern Texas into the lower Mississippi Valley Monday with additional threats of severe thunderstorms and heavy to excessive rainfall which may bring flooding. A Flood Watch remains in effect. In the northern U.S., a storm will bring heavy snow and gusty winds over parts of the northern Rockies, northern Plains, and Upper Midwest Monday into Wednesday. National Weather Service (NWS) Louisville took part in the 9th Annual NWS Week of Service with a couple of activities. First was taking up a collection of food items to donate to the Dare to Care Emergency Food Box program, which serves 13 counties in the Kentuckiana region. Over the course of the week, we collected a total of 222 items that weighed 291 lbs!

The second event was over at Broad Run Park, part of the Parklands of Floyds Fork. Several employees volunteered on their off time to help plant some ground cover plants. Part of the work involved some "extreme" gardening, as we worked to prevent erosion along the sides of a steep ravine by planting ground cover there. We were happy to help out one of our Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors!
