Meteorologists from NWS Louisville participated in the National Sports Safety and Security Conference held in Downtown Louisville this past week. On Tuesday, Warning Coordination Meteorologist, Joe Sullivan, gave a presentation on "What Your National Weather Service Can Do For You". This presentation highlighted where the NWS has been, and where it is now with regard to helping our public safety partners become more situationally aware.

On Thursday, Meteorologist/Forecaster, Brian Schoettmer, facilitated three 30 minute round table discussions on Weather Protocols. Many different safety officials from college campuses, sports arenas, theme parks, and race tracks around the country held productive discussions about how the NWS can support their event decisions by having a meteorologist on site. In addition, available tools and safety thresholds with respect to weather were discussed to arm officials with better knowledge in making decisions for the safety of event attendees.

The National Weather Service strives to build a Weather Ready Nation, and events like the National College Sports Safety and Security Conference offer a perfect opportunity to better serve our customers!
