Record Heat for the Intermountain West and Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Threats

Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today. Hot and dry weather will persist through Monday. The hottest day appears to be Sunday, when many areas likely will top out near or just above the century mark.
As the ridge of high pressure settles to the south of the area next week, this should allow for somewhat better chances for rainfall and near-normal temperatures for mid to late July. Highs average in the upper 80s to lower 90s in mid to late July.
