Heavy rainfall from scattered thunderstorms is expected across the Southwest, Intermountain West, and Plains. Isolated dry thunderstorms may initiate additional fires across the west. The coastal Carolinas may experience flash floods in the coming days due to repeated thunderstorms. Ryan Knutsvig is our new Meteorologist-in-Charge (MIC). His first day in the office was Wednesday, June 23.
Ryan is a native of eastern North Dakota, and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of North Dakota. He joined the National Weather Service in 2002, and has been stationed in Texas, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Nevada, and Nebraska. He comes to our office after serving as the MIC at the NWS office in Grand Forks, ND.
