Dangerous Fire Conditions in the Southern High Plains; Severe Weather from the Great Lakes into Central/Southern Plains; Late-Season Mountain Snow

Dry and windy conditions will produce dangerous fire weather conditions across the southern High Plains into the Southwest. Severe storms, including very large hail, strong tornadoes, and winds, are expected from the Great Lakes into the central/southern Plains. La Nina Winters Tend to have the colder temperatures and more significant snowfall toward the second half of the winter.

 


The chart above is based on all La Nina winters from 1949 to the present, there were 21 winters,  1949-50, 1953-54, 1954-55, 1963-64, 1966-67, 1969-70, 1973-74, 1974-75, 1983-84, 1987-88, 1994-95, 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2009-10, 2012-13 and 2016-17.
