Fire Weather Concerns in the Intermountain West into the Plains

Anomalously warm, dry and breezy conditions will bring elevated to critical fire weather conditions across portions of the Intermountain West into the Plains though early this week. Widespread valley rain and mountain snow will occur throughout the day today, coming to an end by this evening. 6 to 12 inches of snow is expected for elevations above 9000 feet with potential travel impacts this morning along the higher passes. Roads become wet by afternoon due to milder air. While showers will be scattered throughout, some areas could see moderate to heavy precipitation rates at times. With cooler temperatures, the southwest Colorado valleys have potential for freeze tonight with more widespread freeze potential in many locations Thursday night through Saturday night before temperatures warm back up again.
