Fire Weather Conditions in the Northwest U.S.; Heavy Rain in the West and South-central U.S.

Extreme heat is waning over the Pacific Northwest. Dry, gusty winds, and isolated dry thunderstorms will bring critical fire weather to the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West. Heavy rain and thunderstorms continue across portions of the Great Basin, Rockies, and central/southern Plains into the Ozarks. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from noon until 9 PM MDT today for the burn scar areas of the 416 and Burro fires in La Plata County encompassed in the area in green below. The Hermosa drainage is the greatest concern. Locations downhill and downstream from burned areas are very susceptible to flash flooding and debris flows, especially near steep terrain.
