Locally Heavy Rainfall for the Carolinas; Thunderstorms and Fire Weather Concerns for Intermountain West

Heavy rainfall from scattered thunderstorms is expected across the Southwest, Intermountain West, and Plains. Isolated dry thunderstorms may initiate additional fires across the west. The coastal Carolinas may experience flash floods in the coming days due to repeated thunderstorms. Red Flag Warning This Afternoon and Evening in Northwest Colorado and Northeast Utah

A trough will pass through the Northern Rockies this afternoon and tonight causing northwest winds to increase today over northwest Colorado and northeast Utah. These winds will combine with already hot and dry conditions, as well as very dry fuels, to produce critical fire weather over much of northern Colorado and Utah. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from Noon until 8 PM MDT today.
